At McDermott Homes, we’re committed to supporting our local communities, that’s why we were delighted to sponsor Accrington Stanley Women FC U14s as they travelled to Spain to compete in the prestigious Costa Blanca Cup.
Swapping Lancashire for the sunshine of Benidorm, the squad embraced the opportunity to test themselves against teams from a variety of countries and footballing backgrounds. They rose to the challenge impressively, producing an excellent set of performances in the group stage - winning two matches and drawing one to finish as group winners with seven points.
The quarter-final proved to be a fiercely contested encounter against South Belfast YFL. After a hard-fought 0–0 draw, the match was decided on penalties, where the opposition narrowly progressed with a 5–6 victory.
A spokesperson for Accrington Stanley Women FC said: “The results tell only part of the story. Throughout the week, the players demonstrated outstanding commitment, resilience and teamwork, representing their club with pride both on and off the pitch. Competing on an international stage provided invaluable experience, helping them to develop confidence, broaden their horizons and create lasting memories. Off the pitch, the trip was equally rewarding. The players supported one another throughout, strengthening friendships and reinforcing the strong team spirit that defines this group.
Every member of the squad was a credit to the club, displaying exceptional sportsmanship, professionalism and determination throughout the tournament.”
